Ok, I confess, it kills me to spend $50 on shoes. But at 38, and on my feet all day, plus filling in the mid-drift...The shoes I wore in the young hottie days are getting their revenge. Worse yet...at a size 10.5-11 W, I canNOT find shoes to fit.
In need of some water wading shoes, I found a purple pair of this model (incorrectly shown as red on this site) that I thought was too "off color" for professional wear, but worthy of play shoes...for a clearance price of $30 comfort to please my desperation, who could deny the deal?
SHOOT. I don't care if they had bright flashing fuschia blinkers and a whoopie cushion to boot. These shoes rock.
I live 3 hrs from the Birkenstock place I found them in WA, and when I head back that direction, I am clearing the Keen sale shelf, and buying a reg priced pair that is appropriate in style for professional wear. The shoe is kind of wierd looking..but I see Birkenstocks as wierd looking (which didnt work out for me--very painful).
If you have plantar faciatis (sp?) problems, here is a house shoe answer. See, I also drop these shoes next to my bed so I can make it to the bathroom in the middle of the night without tearing up my arches.They are SO comfortable.
And the shoe is breathable, but not cold, not hot, not prone to stretching with sock on, no sock wear.
It's years of shoe nightmares come to an end. I have had 'em for 6 weeks now, weigh 235 lbs (fluffy amazon chick) and the shoe looks like it will hold it's own--wet or dry. A challenge, considering size 6, 110 lb girl shoes are made with the same materials as the larger sizes...like harnessing up a chihuahua the same as a St.Bernard!
Hope this helps.These shoes are my hunt completed.Oh, it appears all shoes are made with the same funky, loveable sole.

I am happy with the rod for the most part. I wanted something small and light, but that still qualified as an actual fishing rod/reel to keep in my backpack for occasional fishing in the ponds we come across while hiking. I could find relatively few products that fit the bill, and this item looked to be the best balance of price, quality, and size. I ordered through Amazon.com from Taylor Gifts and received my order promptly (3 or four days). I was sent a confirmation notice immediately via e-mail which contained a link to UPS which allowed me to track my order across the country. This was very useful. Upon initial inspection The structural quality appears to be quite good. It looks and feels solidly built, and functionally it seems sound. The reel holds a fair amount of line; Easily enough for a day of fishing, even if you get a few birds-nests or have to cut the line, but When I tried it out for the first time last week, I found that the line had retained the shape of the reel and played out in coils. I was still able to fish with it but it definately needs a different kind of line than plain old stren monofilament. I didn't catch anything (probably not the rods' fault), so I don't know how it will handle an actual fish but just from handling it I am pretty confident it could hold its' own against anything under 5 pounds, maybe even bigger. The reel turns smoothly but because of the design you have to guide the line across the reelface with your finger to get it to wind in an even fashion (this is not really a big hindrance or anything, but I thought I should mention it). the big issue is the casting system (We were fishing through the ice so I didn't get to cast). There is a screw-type mechanism on the side of the reel which puts tension on the reel, sort of like a drag setting on a conventionally sized rod. Apparently (directions for use were nonexistant) you turn this all the way out to let the reel spin freely and use the weight of the tackle to spin the reel (whole unit must spin to play out line) when you cast. There is a rubber stop button on top of the reel which acts as a brake to keep the reel from spinning if a fish bites. The price was good, but I would gladly have paid a little more for a reel with better ease of use; a miniature version of the standard open-face reel would be perfect, and I can't believe the manufacturer didn't put a screw cap on the end of the rod, it would be absolutely perfect to keep tackle in if they did. in conclusion: Size/weight - excellent. Quality - good. Ease of use - fair. Value/price - good. For the price, this is worth keeping in your pack/glovebox/kayak. If you don't try to reel in a lake trout with it, it should stand up pretty well.

Nice item for the cost. Wish it was a stronger holder but for the price it works just fine. I have larger deep sea reels so it is hard to get them into the holder. I was only able to use every other slot to hold my reels. For smaller reels and rods, ie freshwater type 6-12 lb test rod/reels no problem. I have another larger rod and reel holder made of solid wood and it has wheels which I use for my 40-80 lb test saltwater rod and reels. Again I like the product and was easy to install. Delivery was quick. Thank You.

Confidence Baits in Fishing

If you had only one lure to use in your next tournament season, what would it be? Would you choose a worm, spinnerbait, topwater, or something else? They all have advantages and disadvantages at certain times of the year.
   If I could only choose one, it would have to be a crankbait. It's not my favorite way to fish, but for tournaments I strongly believe that it is the most versatile and productive of all lures.
   The crankbait can be fished anywhere. You can fish it on top, everywhere in between and all the way to the bottom. You can even add weight to make them suspend. if you're fishing heavy cover with a crankbait with a large bill, the bill will act as a guard for the hooks. This is especially true if you'll cut off the bottom hook on the treble, which also makes it weedless.
   These days there's no excuse for dull hooks either. There are several brands of hooks on the market that are better at holding their sharpness and you can replace hooks that don't.
   Something a lot of anglers overlook is a split ring. These can get rusty and weak just like the hooks. Whenever one looks weak or worn, change it out. Don't let something simple, like a defective split ring, defeat you in a tournament. On crankbaits that don't have split rings such as Mudbugs, I'll add them. This helps to keep you from losing fish when they jump and try to throw the bait.
   When fishing a deep-diver, I'll use one that actually goes deeper than the water I'm fishing. If I'm fishing in 10 to 12 feet then I'll use a crankbait that will run 15 feet.
   Not all crankbaits will run as deep as they advertise. A good way to find out is to take the time to do some trolling and whenever you bait starts to hit the bottom, check to see how deep the water is and mark on the bait how deep it runs. To get an accurate idea of how deep your bait is running, only let out as much line as you can cast when testing the bait.
   The lighter your line, the deeper your lure will go and if you'll run your rod tip down into the water, it will run about a foot or deeper than if your line is on the surface.
   Learn the characteristics of the different kinds of crankbaits that you use. Plastic ones will be easier to throw than wooden ones, but by and large wooden ones have better action and more buoyancy than plastic ones.
   Think about the action of the lures in reference to the application. Flat-sided cranks have a tighter wobble and will work better in cooler water. I've found that almost without exception a stop-and-go retrieve will out produce a steady one every time. In off-colored water, no matter what your lure color might be use one with rattles. In clear water, go with smaller baits and subdued hues.
   If I have a crankbait that seems to really catch fish then I'll mark it and only use it in tournaments. Now it might only be confidence in that lure that makes it so good, but that's the best lure in my tackle box anyway. I probably will fish them harder and longer and in better areas than other baits, but so what if it works.
   Probably the foremost reason I would choose crankbaits for tournaments is that on pre-fish practice days I can cover a lot more water than with other lures. So naturally the bass I find, I know will bite a crankbait and then I'll end up catching them on cranks during the tournament.
   However, in tournaments you don't have to fish just one lure. That's the good part. The bad part is that we sometimes get stuck on one method and get in a rut. If you want to be successful in tournaments, or even just everyday fishing, you must be versatile in lure selection. But I do feel you must also excel in at least one of them. Whatever that is, for you, keep confidence in the bait. For me that just happens to be a crankbait.

Customer Review: Small and unstable but could work if....
Smaller and flimsier than I assumed, the very top is right at my belt hieght when unit is on the floor. Yet it does hold my assorted rods from ultalight up to 8 feet. I don't find it stable enough to stand-alone on the floor like pictured so I'll have to anchor it into a wall using the two racks side-to-side instead of back-to-back. A manufacturing glitch also makes the back-to-back configuration require some bolts that are not included, at least on my unit. I probably wouldn't buy this again at this price but I'll keep it and make it work.

A great rod for trout, even the larger ones. Fishing with 3 lb test green Maxima line on Stradic 2500fh reel, it turns the fish quickly. I prefer them to the Daiwa graphite rods I've had.
